Seamus Heaney HomePlace
The multi-award-winning exhibition at Seamus Heaney HomePlace offers a beautifully presented collection of poetry, photographs and stories guiding visitors from the poet’s formative years to being awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
HomePlace boasts an architecturally stunning 190-seat theatre space (The Helicon) and has welcomed many luminaries from the Arts world to its traverse stage. Van Morrison, Ciarán Hinds, Michael Longley, Lisa Hannigan, Fiona Shaw and Simon Callow are just a few of the names who have featured in HomePlace’s carefully curated programme. The programme runs throughout the year and incorporates music, drama, poetry readings, workshops and ‘in conversation’ events.
The newly refurbished library and digital archive proudly displays a special collection of books kindly loaned and donated to HomePlace by the Heaney family.
‘Open Ground’ is a unique and natural extension of the HomePlace experience centred on five site-specific locations (The Eelworks, Magherafelt, Moyola River, The Strand at Lough Beg and The Turf Man) that inspired Seamus Heaney’s work. This experience provides an authentic connection with the landscape and participants leave with a deeper understanding and appreciation of one of Ireland’s greatest writers.
HomePlace also offers a comprehensive education programme for school, third level and international students. In addition, the complex offers modern and affordable meeting and conference facilities in a location perfect to serve Mid Ulster.
HomePlace Café is located within the facility and provides an enticing menu of hand-crafted coffees and locally-sourced produce. HomePlace is perfectly positioned between Belfast and Derry and only a two and a half hour drive from Dublin.
